New sinkholes on the Tijuana-Ensenada Scenic Highway force the declaration of a state of emergency, according to the mayor Armando Ayala Robles during a meeting with the Business Coordinating Council of Ensenada.

"I'm concerned about this, I just drove by yesterday, the road is already very sunk, it started happening to us 10 years ago," the mayor warned at the end of the closed-door meeting during a press conference.

Although he said that studies and diagnostics of the road should be up to date, he announced that the City Council will declare a state of emergency to determine a diagnosis and actions to be taken.

After the emergency is declared, he explained that a working group will need to be created among municipal, state, and federal authorities, as well as the private sector, to review the information.

He said that this issue will be presented to the Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López, who has a noon appointment on Tuesday in Ensenada, regarding the presentation of the road repair program, with a budget of 380 million pesos.

"There is a risk of it collapsing and affecting us economically," Ayala concluded.
