At the scene of the incident, agents and rescuers observed a white 2010 Chrysler Sebring vehicle submerged at the edge of the canal. They noticed a young man named Ricardo, 17 years old, who expressed concern to the authorities that his mother and brother were still inside the car.

The bodies have been identified as Heidy Sughey Gama Figueroa, 39 years old, and her son Emiliano, 18 years old. They have been handed over to their family for burial. Both the mother and son died from asphyxiation and drowning, as revealed by the autopsy conducted by the Forensic Medical Service.

The area was cordoned off as there were people returning from the horseback ride who were also seeking to help. Acquaintances and relatives mentioned that she worked at the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader) of Baja California.

The bodies were transported to the morgue of the Forensic Medical Service to determine the cause of death, and the case is currently under investigation by the State Attorney General's Office as an accidental death.
