Daylight saving time ends

Daylight saving time is on the verge of its conclusion, signifying that Americans are gearing up to turn their clocks back by a whole hour.

In the United States, daylight saving time spans a total of 34 weeks, from early March to the early days of November. In 2023, daylight saving time commenced on Sunday, March 12, more than a week before the official onset of spring.

The clock change is scheduled for Sunday, November 5, a date when the majority of U.S. residents, including some states in the border region, will need to set their clocks back by one hour.

For commercial reasons and due to the close economic ties between Baja California and the United States, Baja California has maintained its time synchronization with its northern neighbor, California, for many years.

The Mexican Chamber of Deputies has confirmed that several municipalities in the border region will continue adjusting their clocks in accordance with the U.S. time after the elimination of daylight saving time in Mexico.

According to the Trust for Electrical Energy Saving (FIDE), daylight saving time involves advancing the clocks by one hour to modify the time when lighting is turned on during periods of fluctuating energy consumption. These variations are most significant in the mornings, from 5:00 to 8:00 hours, and in the late afternoon and evening, from 17:00 to 24:00 hours. This shift in demand contributes to energy savings and, consequently, a reduction in fuel consumption.
