The San Diego area is in full preparation mode as it braces for a storm set to peak in intensity during the latter half of the week.

With forecasts predicting heavy rainfall and strong winds, teams have already placed "no parking" signs in flood-prone areas. They are diligently clearing storm drains and entrances with a history of debris accumulation. Street sweeping operations are also underway to reduce the entry of trash and pollutants into water bodies, as announced by the City of San Diego in a press release on Tuesday.

The City's Storm Patrol Team will be monitoring various parts of the city for flooding or fallen trees/branches. Road closures will be implemented if necessary.

Municipal authorities advise residents to:

- Sweep and collect garbage, leaves, grass clippings, and other debris around storm drains and curbs near their homes.

- Securely close the lids of trash and recycling bins when placing them on the street for collection. Position each container approximately two to three feet from the curb to avoid obstructing the flow of rainwater on the street.

- Proactively turn off irrigation to conserve water and minimize runoff.

- Familiarize themselves with the safest routes to and from their homes or properties in the event of flooding.

- Reduce speed and avoid driving, cycling, or walking through floodwaters.

- Do not open or lift sewer covers in case of street flooding.

In situations of flooding, sandbags are commonly used as barriers to divert water around buildings rather than allowing it to enter.

Residents with identification can receive up to 10 empty sandbags, available for pick-up at the following recreation centers from 1 to 7 p.m.
