During the early hours of Sunday, February 11, a 20-year-old lost his life in University City, San Diego, after losing control of his Tesla Model 3 and colliding with a utility pole.

The accident occurred on Genesee Avenue, near Centurion Square and the vicinity of University City High School, shortly after 4:20 a.m.

According to the San Diego police and witness testimonies, the driver made an unsafe maneuver, hitting the curb on the right side before violently colliding with the pole.

The collision caused the car to catch fire almost immediately, engulfing it in flames that also spread to nearby vegetation.

Despite the intervention of firefighters and police, the vehicle was already fully engulfed in flames by the time emergency teams arrived. The young driver, who was alone in the vehicle, died at the scene of the accident before he could be transported to a hospital.

Local authorities closed nearby roads for several hours to facilitate investigations and the removal of the vehicle wreckage.
