His brother, who was also attacked, is recovering

The Sunday, authorities reported that the 18-year-old who had been attacked alongside his older brother by a mountain lion in northern California is in recovery.

The incident occurred on Saturday in a remote area northeast of Sacramento when the 18-year-old and his 21-year-old brother were searching for shed antlers near Georgetown. Officers arrived at the scene around 1:30 p.m. and found the young man injured.

Moments later, they spotted the mountain lion near his older brother's body on the ground. Officers shot the animal to scare it away, however, the 21-year-old brother died at the scene.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife confirmed that their wardens located and euthanized the mountain lion responsible for the attack. "The mountain lion has been sent to the CDFW forensic laboratory for DNA analysis and to assess its overall health," the department stated in a release.

The survivor has undergone multiple surgeries due to his injuries but is expected to make a full recovery. The family requested privacy to process the events, although they expressed gratitude for the prayers and condolences received from the community.
