The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) paid tribute to the victims of September 11 with a moment of silence that temporarily halted operations at border crossings. The commemoration marked the 23rd anniversary of the 2001 attacks.

The brief pause in crossings into the U.S. took place at 5:46 a.m. on Monday, September 11. Ports of entry in San Ysidro, Otay Mesa, Tecate, Calexico East and West, as well as Andrade, participated in the commemoration.

The moment of silence served as a tribute to remember and honor the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks, when two commercial planes were flown into the Twin Towers in New York, another into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and a fourth crashed in Pennsylvania.

This symbolic act reaffirms the commitment of border authorities to the memory of a tragedy that profoundly affected the United States and the world.
