More than 500 people, mostly residents of Pasadena and Altadena, sought refuge at the Pasadena Convention Center after wildfires ravaged their homes. The blaze, which began early Wednesday morning in Altadena, has left a trail of destruction and despair.

Among those affected was a Mexican migrant who shared her harrowing experience. Fighting back tears, she recounted how she was prevented from returning to her apartment due to the fire’s proximity. “I feel sad… because I could lose everything. The good thing is that I’m safe, and I have family to support me, but the situation is horrible,” she said.

The Santa Ana winds, with gusts reaching up to 170 kilometers per hour, played a crucial role in the rapid spread of the flames. The disaster has destroyed multiple homes and claimed the lives of five people.

In response, several businesses organized efforts to provide free hot meals at the shelter, while taco vendors and fruit sellers stepped in to offer food and support to affected families.

“We’re here to serve up to 800 people, and we feel good about doing it, about helping,” said Salvador Magno, an employee of one of the companies contributing to the relief efforts.
