Following an emergency alert, the university issued an order to lock doors and remain inside the buildings

The University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego) issued an emergency alert Friday morning after receiving reports of an armed suspect on campus, the institution announced.

The alert was sent to students and staff around 11 a.m., warning those on campus to avoid the north campus area, particularly the RIMAC and LionTree Arena area, due to a "police emergency."

The emergency message also reported the presence of a "possible armed suspect" and urged individuals on campus to "lock doors and remain inside."

This followed an anonymous call reporting that a woman was being held against her will. Authorities were able to trace the location of her cell phone, which led them to the vicinity of LionTree Arena.

UC San Diego police, along with San Diego law enforcement, are currently on the scene conducting a search operation in the area.

No further details regarding the emergency have been provided at this time.
