Gunfire erupts at El Chaparral: witnesses say two killed as chaos traps drivers away from their vehicles

Moments of terror unfolded on Saturday afternoon in the El Chaparral area, on the U.S. side before entering Mexico, where motorists were forced to exit their vehicles and lie face down on the ground.

According to initial reports, people traveling through the area said that security agents ordered drivers to leave their cars and take cover on the ground. Some witnesses reported hearing gunfire, sparking panic and confusion among those waiting to cross into Mexican territory.

One witness described the scene in a voice message: "I’m out of it now. They let us back into our vehicles, we got in, and the shooting is over. Yeah, they got two people — it looks like they killed two individuals who were trying to cross with a cache of weapons. I think there were two cars. I saw the bodies lying there, all the chaos and everything. But thank God, we finally crossed into Tijuana."

As of now, authorities have not released an official report on the incident. Preliminary information suggests that two individuals, allegedly linked to arms trafficking, were killed.

Baja News continues to gather information and will provide updates on this event, which temporarily brought the El Chaparral border crossing to a standstill.
