This is what is known about the Annie Kathleen Encino case

A 16-year-old girl reported missing in the United States after visiting Disney California Adventure Park has been found alive in the border city of Mexicali, Baja California. The teen, identified as Annie Kathleen Encino, was discovered inside a trash container by local authorities, who confirmed she was in stable physical condition.

Annie was last seen on April 20 around 4:45 p.m., following an alleged argument with family members at the Anaheim-based theme park. After losing contact with her, her family reported her missing to local authorities, prompting the activation of an Amber Alert in the U.S.

The case took an unexpected turn several days later when an anonymous 911 call in Mexicali reported a young girl rummaging through trash bins near a supermarket in the Gran Venecia neighborhood. Municipal officers responded to the scene and, upon confirming her identity, established that the girl was Annie.

The teenager was taken into custody by Mexican authorities, who immediately notified the U.S. consulate. Her mother later traveled to Mexicali to identify her, and Annie was reunited with her family and returned to the United States.

Daniel Hernández Ilizaliturri, secretary of the Mexicali City Council, stated that the teen did not provide clear information about how she crossed the border or what led her to wander alone. He added that, according to her mother, Annie had a history of behavioral issues, which may have contributed to her voluntary disappearance.

As of now, authorities have not confirmed whether Annie crossed the border on her own or may have been a victim of a crime. Details regarding her movements and stay in Mexico remain unclear. Further information is expected in the coming days as the investigation continues on both sides of the border.
