The patients range in age from 1 to 90 years old

San Diego County has reported a total of 37 probable and confirmed cases of individuals who have fallen ill with Salmonella following an outbreak linked to a Middle Eastern restaurant in Clairemont.

According to the county’s updated press release, those affected dined at Aladdin Mediterranean Café between April 25 and May 1. The ages of those impacted range from 1 to 90 years old, and to date, nine people have been hospitalized.

The restaurant voluntarily closed upon being notified of the situation, allowing health officials to conduct additional testing and interview employees. As of now, the county has not identified the source of the outbreak.

Officials stated that once the investigation is complete and there is no ongoing public health risk, the establishment will be cleared to reopen.

Symptoms of salmonellosis — an infection caused by Salmonella bacteria — include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea that may contain blood or mucus, abdominal cramps, and fever. These symptoms can begin 12 to 72 hours after consuming contaminated food, and the illness typically lasts between four and seven days. Most individuals recover without medical treatment.

"The county recommends that anyone who dined at Aladdin Mediterranean Café between April 25 and May 1, 2025, and is experiencing any of the listed symptoms, contact a healthcare provider as needed,” the statement said.
