Both clarify that they are not facing any legal accusations and attribute the measure to consular regulations in the U.S.
The Governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, and her husband, attorney Carlos Torres Torres, issued public statements via social media following the revocation of their U.S. visas. Both asserted that the decision was the result of internal policies within the U.S. government and denied any legal wrongdoing.
“In recent days, I have once again witnessed what true love, resilience, and loyalty really mean,” the governor wrote in a message addressed to the public. She acknowledged that “shortly after the consular measure was applied to him, I received a similar notification,” referring to her husband's visa situation.
Ávila Olmeda expressed confidence that the matter would be resolved: “I am certain and fully trust that the situation will be clarified satisfactorily for both of us.” She added, “Carlos has always acted with integrity, dedication, and deep commitment to Baja California.” She emphasized that her support for him is “not only personal—it is moral and political,” and reaffirmed her commitment to continue leading the state with “a clear conscience.”
Carlos Torres confirmed that he had been notified “of the revocation of my non-immigrant visa, a measure that, as is the case for many individuals in similar circumstances, stems from internal decisions by the U.S. State Department.” He emphasized that the procedure “does not represent an accusation, investigation, or formal allegation by any authority, either in Mexico or the United States.”
He added that he had retained an immigration attorney to explore available legal options. “They are evaluating whether to file a motion to reopen or reconsider the decision, or to begin a new visa application process, strictly following official channels,” he explained.
Torres also accused political actors of attempting to exploit the situation: “These are people without limits or scruples, willing to turn any event into slander if they believe it will give them an advantage.” He expressed regret that the situation had impacted the governor: “Though she had no part in causing this, she has faced it with calm, strength, and the unwavering empathy that defines her.”
Both concluded their statements by reaffirming their commitment to legality and public service. They assured the public that the situation would be addressed with “serenity,” “fortitude,” and strict adherence to the law.
