The inaugural event brought together universities and representatives from both countries to foster academic collaboration, innovation, and internationalization

Tijuana served as the stage for the first-ever Australia-Mexico Higher Education Dialogue, a landmark event that brought together educational institutions, diplomats, and experts from both nations with the goal of strengthening academic cooperation and opening a platform for key policy discussions in the higher education sector.

The event was the result of months of joint effort between the Australian Embassy in Mexico and CETYS University, with the support of organizations such as ANUIES, BINPES, and AMPEI, as well as delegations from both countries. The dialogue focused on topics including academic mobility, research collaboration, innovation, and the internationalization of higher education.

During the opening ceremony, Australia’s Ambassador to Mexico, Rachel Moseley, celebrated the realization of this dialogue and emphasized its purpose as a platform for idea exchange and for building meaningful connections between like-minded institutions from both countries.

Dr. Fernando León García, president of CETYS University since 2010, welcomed participants and expressed his gratitude to all those who helped bring the event to life. “It’s a pleasure to have you all here. This effort is the result of a shared vision and the commitment of many,” he stated. He also recalled earlier moments of international cooperation, such as Australian universities’ involvement in global forums, highlighting the importance of giving continuity to such efforts despite global challenges like polarization and populism.
