California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) officials have announced the temporary overnight closure of the final southbound exit on Interstate 5 (I-5), just before entering Mexico at the San Ysidro Port of Entry.

The closure is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, June 17 at 9:00 p.m. and will remain in effect until 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18. During this time, access to Camino de la Plaza the last chance for drivers to exit the freeway before the border will be unavailable.

According to Caltrans, the closure is part of an urgent infrastructure maintenance effort in one of the busiest international crossing routes. Motorists are advised to plan ahead, use alternate routes, and follow posted detour signs to avoid delays.

The exit is expected to reopen immediately after the repair work is completed. Travelers can check Caltrans’ official platforms or real-time traffic reports for updates.
