Pet safety warning issued ahead of fireworks

In observance of Independence Day in the United States, public offices in the City and County of San Diego will suspend operations on Friday, July 4. Additionally, public health centers, libraries, animal shelters, and community centers will also remain closed for the holiday.

Despite the closure, essential services such as Sheriff’s Department patrols and emergency animal control will continue to operate as usual, according to the county government.

County parks and campgrounds will remain open to the public. However, specific facilities including the community centers in Fallbrook, Lakeside, and Spring Valley, as well as youth centers in those areas will be closed for the holiday. The county’s online campground reservation system will remain accessible, though no phone support will be available that day.

Authorities issued a special advisory for pet owners to take extra precautions during the night of July 4, as fireworks displays can distress animals and cause them to run away. Officials recommend keeping pets in a safe space with up-to-date identification.

Public offices are scheduled to reopen on Monday, July 7, under normal business hours.
