Christopher Teal reported that demand continues to rise: 270,000 applications last year and the same figure already reached in the current fiscal year

The cost of U.S. visas for students, tourists, and other categories remains unchanged, confirmed Christopher Teal, Consul General of the United States in Tijuana, noting that a final decision from Washington is still pending.

“We are still waiting for a final decision from Washington. So, those who continue applying for their visas are paying the same fees for student visas, tourist visas, etc. We are not announcing any price changes. As soon as I have the information, we will speak with you again to announce a change, but for now the prices remain the same,” the diplomat said.

Teal explained that demand for appointments at the consulate remains high. Last year, they received about 270,000 visa applications, and in the current fiscal year still underway that same figure has already been reached as of August.

The consul emphasized that this demand reflects the public’s interest in traveling legally, but warned against rumors and misinformation about supposed shortcuts or special procedures to obtain a visa.

“If the word doesn’t come from someone at the consulate, it’s not true. There are many myths, and I want to be very clear: figures, information, special arrangements don’t exist. Everything must go through the procedures and processes we carry out here at the consulate,” he stressed.

The U.S. official added that the situation is not unique to Tijuana but is also occurring at other consular offices in the country, though he acknowledged he does not have specific figures for other cities.
