Citizens denounce favoritism and irregular fees while trying to access the service

On Wednesday morning, Palacio Municipal became the scene of discontent and corruption allegations after dozens of people seeking to process their double nationality denounced the alleged sale of spots to be attended.

Applicants, some of whom had been trying for days to complete the process, said that despite arriving before dawn, turn tickets ran out quickly.
They claim that certain employees or outsiders were “reserving” places to sell them later, sparking anger and uncertainty among those who had been waiting since early morning.

One affected applicant reported that by 2:35 a.m. there were already about 38 people in line, but just minutes after ticket distribution began, all 50 available had been taken.

Witnesses said some individuals were given as many as five or six tickets, despite announcements that the limit would be one per family.

Testimonies also highlighted the emotional and financial toll of having to show up several mornings in a row in an effort to obtain the document, particularly for families with young children.

Several people reported spending money on transportation and food without making progress in their application, while alleged intermediaries profited from the applicants’ desperation.

Those affected called on municipal authorities and Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda to investigate and put an end to these irregular practices, in order to ensure a transparent and orderly process that safeguards citizens’ right to process their double nationality.
