Starting Sunday night and continuing through Friday, several sections of Interstate 805 in the South Bay area will be closed overnight due to bridge construction work, according to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).

The closures will impact the southbound lanes between East Naples Street and Bonita Road from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., as part of the I-805 South Bridge Safety and Sound Walls project, which aims to improve structural safety and reduce traffic noise in nearby communities.

During construction, nearby residents and businesses may experience dust, bright lights, and noise from heavy machinery. At times, additional lane closures may be required, but detours and traffic control personnel will be in place to assist drivers in the area.

Caltrans urged motorists to drive cautiously, slow down, and plan ahead, as traffic delays and congestion are expected throughout the affected zone.

The $33 million project is part of an effort to modernize transportation infrastructure in South County, including bridge safety upgrades, installation of sound walls, and the addition of auxiliary lanes along a four-mile stretch of I-805, from East Palomar Street in Chula Vista to State Route 54 in National City.

Construction work on the sound walls and bridge safety improvements at Telegraph Canyon Road and East Naples Street is expected to be completed by late 2026.
