Authorities implemented a precautionary closure as police searched for an individual near the campus

Moments of uncertainty and tension unfolded Monday afternoon at San Ysidro Middle School after the campus was placed under an emergency lockdown due to a police operation in the surrounding area.

The security lockdown was activated shortly after midday, when the San Diego Police Department received a report of a homeless man who was refusing to leave an area near the school, located along Otay Mesa Road. As a precaution and amid concerns of a potential risk, authorities requested the immediate confinement of the campus.

Following established safety protocols, the Sweetwater Union High School District ordered a full lockdown while officers searched for the individual in nearby areas, prompting concern among parents, students, and school staff.

A district spokesperson later clarified that the incident did not occur on campus, emphasizing that the lockdown was implemented solely to ensure the safety of students and employees in a potentially dangerous situation.

After approximately one hour of police activity, authorities confirmed the arrest of one person, allowing the lockdown to be lifted. Classes resumed as normal, and according to official reports, no injuries or direct threats to the school community were reported.
