Strong winds and heavy rain disrupt operations at San Diego International Airport; authorities warn of dangerous flooding

More than 140 flights were delayed Monday at San Diego International Airport as a powerful storm swept through the region, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall.

According to online flight-tracking data and the airport’s official website, at least 141 arrivals and departures experienced delays. At the same time, the National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for parts of San Diego County, along with a marine warning for winds ranging from 45 to 50 knots off the coast.

Forecasters said periods of rain, gusty winds and snowfall in the mountains are expected to continue throughout the week. There is also a slight chance of thunderstorms into early Tuesday, followed by lighter showers later in the day and strengthening west winds across mountain areas and desert slopes.

High temperatures on Tuesday are forecast to reach 62 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast; between 60 and 63 in the western valleys; 51 to 56 near the foothills; 41 to 50 in the mountains; and 65 to 70 in the deserts.

Meteorologists said another system bringing rain and lower-elevation mountain snow could move in from late Tuesday into Wednesday. Cooler and drier conditions are expected Thursday and Friday, though rain chances may increase again early next week.
