Between 500 and 600 devices expected to be operational after one month of training

The Tijuana Municipal Police have launched a training program to equip all officers with body cameras, in an effort to improve evidence collection and document field operations.

David García Barraza, Director General of Police and Municipal Traffic, announced that the training began today and is expected to prepare all officers to operate the devices within approximately one month, potentially before the end of March.

The plan includes between 500 and 600 body cameras, which will complement the equipment already installed in some patrol vehicles. The goal, García Barraza emphasized, is for each officer to have their own device while performing their duties.

The implementation of body cameras has been a recurring demand in cities across Mexico as a tool to increase transparency in police actions, reduce disputes during arrests, and strengthen investigative records.

In Tijuana, one of the country’s most active cities in terms of security operations, the measure aims to establish an institutional standard for documenting patrols and operations.

If the schedule is met, by the end of March the police force could achieve full field video coverage, marking a significant shift in how police procedures are recorded in the city.
