Semi-truck fire on Interstate 805 sparked traffic chaos and left hundreds of pounds scattered across the area

A massive fire engulfed a semi-truck early Tuesday morning on a bridge along Interstate 805 in San Diego, triggering hours of heavy traffic and an unusual shower of almonds onto a parking lot below.

The tractor-trailer was completely destroyed by the flames. The blaze began around 6 a.m., though authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire.

At a business park located beneath the bridge, the parking lot was blanketed with hundreds of pounds of almonds that spilled from the burning truck. Witnesses said that even after the fire was brought under control, more almonds continued to fall from above.

The complex is home to Synergy Orthopedics, where staff reported that several parked vehicles were damaged by the falling cargo. Officers with the California Highway Patrol secured the scene as part of the ongoing investigation.

The Mission Valley business park houses several medical offices, some of which experienced partial service disruptions as emergency crews worked to contain the situation and clear the debris.
