The Navy is reinforcing security measures and urging sailors to avoid wearing uniforms or displaying military symbols in public amid rising tensions related to the conflict with Iran

The United States Navy has reiterated to sailors stationed in San Diego the importance of taking extra precautions in public spaces as political and military tensions increase following the conflict with Iran.

According to a sailor in the area who asked to remain anonymous, base authorities sent an internal message this week recommending that personnel avoid wearing clothing, decals, or displaying items on their vehicles that identify them as members of the Navy, as doing so could make them potential targets for attacks. Sailors were also advised to change out of their uniforms and into civilian clothing when leaving the base or when they are not performing military duties.

A spokesperson for Naval Base San Diego confirmed that security measures at the installation have been increased, including stricter ID checks and additional access restrictions. While the spokesperson did not provide details about internal procedures, they noted that military personnel are regularly trained to remain vigilant and take common-sense precautions when in public spaces.

The recommendations come amid heightened international tensions following the military operation Operation Epic Fury, launched by the United States and Israel against Iran. So far, U.S. involvement in the conflict has resulted in the deaths of six American soldiers and has drawn criticism from some lawmakers as well as protests from anti-war groups.

In addition, the Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating a shooting that occurred in Texas one day after the attacks began as a possible act of terrorism. Two people were killed and 16 others were wounded. According to reports, the suspect was wearing clothing featuring an emblem of the Iranian flag.
