A 25-year-old employee was struck in the head near K Street and 13th; the suspect was arrested after resisting officers and prompting a K-9 intervention

The San Diego Police Department reported that a 25-year-old employee of an Ace store was injured Sunday afternoon in downtown San Diego. The incident occurred around 3:42 p.m. in the area of K Street and 13th Street, near a parking lot known as the Tailgate Padres Parking Lot. According to the official report, the man was sitting on an electrical box when another individual approached him and began striking him in the head with a wooden object.

As a result, the victim sustained two head injuries and was transported to a UCSD hospital. Authorities stated that the injuries were not life-threatening.

The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Lathapoun Keovongsa, was later located near Park Boulevard. Police said he was carrying a large wooden stick and failed to comply with officers’ commands.

Due to his resistance, officers deployed non-lethal measures, which were initially unsuccessful. A K-9 unit was ultimately used to take him into custody. Authorities said the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
