San Diego: Popular beverage products recalled over possible Salmonella contamination

Drinks sold in cafés and restaurants may pose a health risk
A wide range of specialty beverage products distributed across 25 U.S. states has been recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
SKS Copack, a company based in Cerritos, California, announced the voluntary recall of several products commonly used in cafés, restaurants, and direct delivery services. The affected items were distributed to states including California, Texas, Florida, New York, Illinois, Washington, and others.
The recalled products include beverage and dessert mixes from several brands, such as matcha green tea, taro, horchata, white chocolate, French vanilla cappuccino, yogurt powder, smoothie bases, and ice cream mixes. Officials said the products contain certain batches of nonfat dry milk powder that may have been exposed to bacterial contamination.
So far, health authorities have reported no illnesses linked to the recalled products.
The recall began after SKS Copack was notified by one of its suppliers about a voluntary recall initiated by California Dairies, Inc., a manufacturer of low-heat nonfat dry milk powder. The company identified a potential risk of Salmonella contamination in one of its ingredients.
Following the notification, SKS Copack quarantined the remaining inventory and immediately halted distribution of the affected products.
Consumers are being urged to check whether they purchased any of the recalled items and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause serious gastrointestinal infections, particularly in young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. Common symptoms include fever, diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain.
