The space probe Voyager 2, sent into space in 1977, has regained contact after an unexpected error disrupted communication with the spacecraft. On July 21st, a series of misdirected commands from NASA caused the probe's antenna to veer two degrees off target from Earth, leading to a halt in data transmission and reception of commands from mission control.

Initially, the resolution was not anticipated until October 15th, when an automatic reorientation maneuver was scheduled. However, the NASA team made a final effort to restore contact using the Deep Space Network and other antennas, and to everyone's surprise, they received a signal indicating the spacecraft's status.

Suzanne Dodd, the project director for Voyager, confirmed that the probe is operational and functioning properly following the successful reestablishment of contact. While new instructions have been provided to point the antenna towards Earth, there remains a low probability of it functioning correctly.

Voyager 2 is an iconic mission that managed to leave the protective bubble of the Sun, known as the heliosphere, in 2018, and enter interstellar space. Throughout its trajectory, it has been the only probe to fly by Uranus and Neptune, designed to explore the outer reaches of the solar system and transmit valuable information about our cosmic space.
