The South California team is first for the moment in the NWSL

San Diego Wave FC (6-3-2, 20 points) extended their unbeaten streak to five matches with a 0-0 draw against Racing Louisville (2-3-6, 12 points) at Lynn Family Stadium.

Following the first half, where the Wave outshot Louisville 5-3, San Diego went into the second half on the attack. Midfielder Sierra Enge hit a shot in the 86th minute that deflected off a Louisville defender and fell to the feet of forward Amirah Ali. The second-half substitute then created the game’s best scoring opportunity when she hit the one-time shot on her right foot, firing a shot just over the goal.

Goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan made four saves on the night to secure another shutout. The shutout was the fourth straight clean sheet for the Wave on the road, marking the first team in NWSL history to go undefeated in four consecutive road matches.

Next on the schedule: San Diego Wave FC return to Snapdragon Stadium to host Rivalry Day, presented by Kaiser Permanente, against Angel City FC on Saturday, June 17. The match is scheduled to kickoff at 1:00 p.m. PT and will be broadcasted nationally on CBS.

Notes:

  • With tonight’s win, San Diego Wave FC is the first team in NWSL history to go undefeated in four consecutive road matches. It also marks the fourth straight shutout for the Wave on the road.
  • Goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan wore the captain’s armband tonight for the first time in Wave history while earning her 27th career shutout.
  • Midfielder Meggie Dougherty Howard returned to the starting XI for the first time since the Wave’s season opener on March 25. The first-year Wave player is returning from a left thigh injury.
