The incident occurred during the game between Monterrey and Tijuana

Dramatic scenes unfolded during the second game between the Sultanes de Monterrey and the Toros de Tijuana at Estadio de los Sultanes, after a cheerleader was struck in the head by a baseball bat.

The incident occurred in the eighth inning when Franchy Cordero, left fielder for the Toros de Tijuana, lost grip of his bat, which flew into the stands and hit a cheerleader who was actively performing at the time.

The cheerleader, identified as Mayrim Cantú, 26, originally from Monterrey, Nuevo León, was rushed to Swiss Hospital. While doctors ruled out a skull fracture, she remained under observation to monitor for any further complications.

Cantú has built a career with various cheer squads, having performed not only with the Sultanes of the Mexican Baseball League but also with Fuerza Regia, Monterrey’s professional basketball team.
