The third baseman will suit up for his fifth MLB team in his professional career

The San Diego Padres confirmed the signing of Miguel Andújar for the 2026 Major League Baseball season, after agreeing to a one-year, $4 million contract.

Andújar, a third baseman, hit .318 with 10 home runs and 44 RBIs last season while splitting time between the Oakland Athletics and the Cincinnati Reds. He joined Cincinnati on July 31 as part of a trade that sent minor league right-hander Kenya Huggins to Oakland.

The infielder, who will turn 30 on March 2, brings nine seasons of MLB experience and owns a career batting average of .282, along with 53 home runs and 223 RBIs.

Throughout his career, Andújar has played for the New York Yankees (2017–2022), Pittsburgh Pirates (2022–2023), Oakland Athletics (2024–2025), and the Cincinnati Reds, before landing in San Diego.

Career highlights of Miguel Andújar:

  • American League Rookie of the Year runner-up (2018), finishing second only to Shohei Ohtani.
  • Silver Slugger Award (2018) at third base, recognizing the top offensive player at the position.
  • Breakout 2018 season: .297 batting average, 27 home runs, and 92 RBIs, one of the strongest offensive campaigns by a rookie third baseman in recent years.
  • All-Star selection (2018).
  • Set and tied multiple New York Yankees rookie records for doubles and offensive production during that season.

That standout 2018 campaign established Andújar as one of baseball’s most promising young players and remains the foundation of his reputation across Major League Baseball.
