Minor Found Dead in Florida Shelter

In a press release sent by the United States Congress to CNN, it was reported on Friday that a minor of Honduran origin has died while under the care of the Office of Refugee Resettlement at a shelter in Florida.

The Department of Health and Human Services, the agency responsible for unaccompanied migrant minors, had assigned the young Honduran to Gulf Coast Jewish Family and Community Services in Safety Harbor, Florida, on May 5th.

On Wednesday, May 10th, the minor was found unconscious and immediately transported to a medical facility in an attempt to revive him. However, the minor tragically lost his life.

The Department of Health and Human Services notified the parents and sponsors of the minor about his death, expressing their condolences and stating that the minor's body is under investigation by a forensic team to determine the cause of death.

The White House expressed condolences for the minor's death, assuring that they are awaiting the results of the investigations.

Honduras' Chancellor, Eduardo Enrique Reyna, expressed his condolences for the minor's passing via a tweet. He also informed that the Honduran government, through the embassy in Washington, is in contact with the family and has requested the HHS to clarify the case and hold anyone accountable if deemed responsible.

Authorities have not provided further information about the case beyond what was shared with the media. A press conference is expected to be held once the forensic results are available to shed light on the matter.
