A knife-wielding man spread terror in a park near Lake Annecy in the French Alps, injuring five people, including four young children, before being apprehended. According to authorities, the four minors are in critical condition, while the adult suffered less severe injuries.

French President Emmanuel Macron described the attack as an act of "absolute cowardice" and expressed his support for the victims and their families. The assailant, identified as Abdalmasih H., a Syrian asylum seeker, possessed documents indicating refugee status and had no criminal record. He had sought asylum in both Sweden and France and claimed to be Christian.

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin reported that the assailant was detained thanks to the swift intervention of security forces. The Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office is assessing the circumstances of the attack to determine if it will take over the case.

The attack took place in the Jardin de l'Europe, a park frequented by children and located in an idyllic setting. Eyewitnesses described horrifying scenes of screams and bodies lying on the ground. Some of the children were stabbed while in their strollers. Due to the severity of their injuries, several victims were airlifted to the hospital.
