"I had never seen an accident of such magnitude before."

A collision between a semi-truck and a bus in Carberry, located in the Canadian province of Manitoba, has resulted in the tragic death of at least 15 people and left 10 others injured.

John Proven, an eyewitness, recounted seeing a vehicle engulfed in flames in a ditch just after noon on Thursday. "I had never seen an accident of such magnitude before," he expressed.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) responded to this serious incident with all available resources, including their crime unit.

"The semi-truck was heading eastbound on MBHwy1, and the bus, carrying elderly individuals from Dauphin, was heading southbound on MBHwy5. The bus had already crossed the westbound lanes of Highway 1 and was crossing the eastbound lanes when it was struck by the truck," explained the Manitoba Police on their Twitter account.

Emergency vehicles, including an air ambulance and 12 ground ambulances, were dispatched to the scene.

The majority of those affected were residents of Dauphin, Manitoba, who were heading to the Sand Hills Casino in Carberry.

Authorities reported that the injuries of those hospitalized are significant.

Both the trucking company Day & Ross and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed their condolences and offered support.

The local air ambulance service deployed one of its largest responses to the accident.

The situation is reminiscent of the Humboldt Broncos tragedy in 2018, and investigators from Saskatchewan are collaborating in the investigation.
