Some doctors from the Royal Free Hospital approached Daniel, a Nigerian street vendor, to offer him a life-changing option for the young man. While touring the hospital, the doctors raised the question of the risks of the surgery and the treatment that he would use for life, which raised doubts in Daniel.

The man informed investigators about the organ trade, disguised as a "job opportunity" to remove his kidney and donate it to a stranger. For her part, Cristina Huddleston, belonging to the British organization Justice And Care, expressed "They were literally going to cut him up like a piece of meat, take out what they wanted and then sew him back together."

The doctors suspected that Daniel was unaware of the operation and had been compelled, which is why they halted the organ removal process. The young man went to present his case to the Heathrow airport police, where an investigation was launched into the first legal process in the United Kingdom under human trafficking.

The incident occurred in 2022, however the man currently lives under police protection, this case exposed the tactics of traffickers to lure individuals into the UK with false promises.

Daniel had to undergo a blood test as a requirement to work in the UK, without realizing that it was really to find out his state of health and compatibility with Sonia, a 25-year-old woman with kidney problems.

The traffickers showed Sonia a photograph of a relative posing as Daniel as a voluntary donor. The young man had appointments with several doctors at the Royal Free Hospital for his diagnosis.

Sonia's father, a prominent Nigerian politician, was taken to court where he claimed that he had been misled and had no intention of taking advantage of Daniel. Human traffickers are using the law to turn organ donation into financial reward, the jury found.
