Hong Kong police have detained a couple suspected of being the parents of two babies whose bodies were found in glass jars inside an apartment in the Tuen Mun neighborhood. The discovery occurred when a cleaning worker, hired by the apartment owner, stumbled upon the remains.

The babies, reportedly males, were stored in cylindrical bottles about 15 cm in diameter and 30 cm in height, within an unknown solution, covered with a large white towel, located in a corner of the living room.

Chief Inspector Au Yeung Tak, from the North New Territories unit, stated that no obvious injuries were found on the corpses and that the cause of death will be determined by a forensic pathologist after the autopsy. It is suspected that the babies may have died prenatally due to their size.

Authorities have arrested a 24-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, suspected tenants of the apartment, accused of obstructing burial of bodies. It is believed that the man has ties to a criminal gang, while the woman works in public relations, according to information provided by the police.

The disturbing incident unfolded after the homeowner's request, accompanied by a real estate agent, for the tenants to sign the termination of the contract and vacate the premises.

Chief Inspector Au Yeung Tak announced that an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact age of the babies and clarify the circumstances of their death.
