The owner of the plane and famous San Diego drummer Daniel Williams are believed to have died

New information has come to light following the early Thursday morning plane crash in the Tierrasanta neighborhood of San Diego, where a small aircraft collided with several homes. The music agency Sound Talent Group confirmed that three of its employees were killed in the crash, including co-founder David Shapiro, a resident of El Cajon.

The aircraft, a 1985 Cessna Citation with tail number N666DS, is registered to Daviator LLC, an Alaska-based company located in Homer. Public records show that Shapiro was the sole employee and manager of the company.

According to the FAA, he had been a certified flight instructor since 2010 and operated an aviation business out of California.

Shapiro, 42, was also a music executive and owner of Velocity Records, a label representing alternative rock bands such as Thursday and D.R.U.G.S.

Former The Devil Wears Prada drummer Daniel Williams posted Instagram stories just hours before the crash, showing photos from inside the plane and posing with Shapiro. In one caption, he wrote, “Flying back with @davevelocity.” No further posts were made after that. It remains unclear who was piloting the aircraft at the time of the crash.

The impact occurred around 4 a.m. near Sample and Salmon Streets. According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, at least 15 homes were affected. The agency expressed deep sorrow over the loss of its employees and extended condolences to their families.
