A violent shooting at two separate locations in Lexington left at least two people dead and three others injured, including a Kentucky State Police trooper. The gunman, who was fatally shot by law enforcement, began his violent rampage near Blue Grass Airport before heading to a local church.
The incident began around 11:36 a.m. when the suspect whose identity has not yet been released opened fire on a state trooper during a traffic stop on Terminal Drive near the airport. The officer was injured and transported to a hospital, while the shooter fled the scene.

Minutes later, the man arrived at Richmond Road Baptist Church, where he opened fire on congregants. Two women, ages 72 and 32, were killed instantly. Two other men were injured, one of whom remains in critical condition.

Authorities confirmed the suspect was shot and killed at the church and indicated there may have been a personal connection between the shooter and some of the victims, though no further details were provided.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear expressed his condolences on social media and thanked first responders for their swift action. "Our thoughts are with the affected families and the injured officer," he wrote.

Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers stated that the investigation remains ongoing and that additional information will be released in the coming hours. Meanwhile, operations at Blue Grass Airport have resumed after a brief disruption, with officials clarifying that the shooting was not related to airport activities. The attack has shaken the community, prompting residents and faith leaders to gather for a candlelight vigil to honor the victims. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with the investigation as they continue to gather evidence to determine the motive.
