The attacker was found dead

Two people in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) were killed and another was injured following a shooting Wednesday morning at a federal facility in Dallas. The suspected gunman was later found dead, police sources confirmed.

The incident occurred shortly before 7 a.m. at the building located at 8101 North Stemmons Freeway, off Interstate 35E. According to sources cited by WFAA, the shooting is believed to have taken place during the loading or unloading of a bus carrying detainees.

Two detainees were killed at the scene, and another person was transported to a hospital with gunshot wounds. No ICE officers were injured, confirmed Todd Lyons, the agency’s acting director.

A large police response was initially deployed amid concerns there could be multiple shooters. Authorities later reported that the suspect was found dead on the roof of a nearby building, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The heavy presence of emergency vehicles forced the temporary closure of sections of I-35E in both directions. Northbound lanes reopened around 8 a.m., according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

In a statement, Dallas police confirmed that a suspect opened fire at the ICE facility, leaving one person dead at the scene and two others transported to hospitals. The department later confirmed the suspect’s death.

U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem also addressed the incident:

“Details are still emerging, but we can confirm there were multiple injuries and fatalities. The shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. While we don’t yet know the motive, we know that our ICE officers are facing unprecedented violence. This must stop. Please pray for the victims and their families,” she said.

Vice President JD Vance posted a message on social media Wednesday morning expressing his condolences.

Local authorities announced they would hold a press conference later in the morning to provide additional details.
