Seven workers experienced dizziness and difficulty breathing following a hazmat-type situation at the park

At least seven employees at Disneyland Park were hospitalized Tuesday following an incident involving an unknown odor in a restricted area of the theme park.

According to the Anaheim Fire Department, firefighters responded around 12:30 p.m. to a report of an unusual smell in a backstage area near the Star Tours attraction, located in Tomorrowland.

Following the incident, seven workers known as “cast members” were transported to local hospitals after experiencing symptoms such as dizziness and difficulty breathing, a spokesperson for Disneyland Resort said. Other employees were treated by medical staff inside the park and did not require hospitalization.

Authorities said park operations were not affected by the incident. At this time, the exact cause of the odor has not been determined.

In a statement, Disneyland representatives said the incident may have been related to construction materials used by a contractor in a backstage area of the park.

“The area was inspected by the appropriate response teams. Several employees were treated at the scene by paramedics and released. As a precaution, some nearby areas open to the public were temporarily evacuated and are expected to reopen soon,” the resort said.

Authorities continue to investigate the source of the incident.
