The United States Department of Justice and Attorney General Merrick Garland announced on Saturday, May 25th, the extradition of Pérez Salas to the state of New York, where he faces charges of fentanyl trafficking, possession of firearms, and money laundering.

According to statements from the Prosecutor, 'El Nini' is presumed to have been one of the main sicarios of the Sinaloa cartel, responsible for violent acts such as murders, tortures, and kidnappings in defense of the cartel's interests.

The individual, identified as the former chief of security for the sons of Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán, is already in custody of US authorities at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

The charges against him include the production and distribution of cocaine and methamphetamine, as well as obstruction of justice, both in the District Court for the District of Columbia and in the Southern District Court of New York.
