The death of the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel triggers roadblocks and violent incidents in multiple regions of the country.

The federal government confirmed on Sunday the death of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho,” during an operation led by federal forces in the mountainous region of Jalisco. The leader of the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) was killed in a shootout with Army personnel following intelligence efforts that allowed authorities to pinpoint his area of movement.

According to initial official reports, the operation took place in a hard-to-access region where the criminal group has historically maintained a strong presence. In the aftermath of the raid, roadblocks and violent incidents were reported in several states, allegedly in response by cells linked to the organization.

Oseguera Cervantes, a native of Michoacán, was considered a top-priority target for both Mexico and the United States. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) had offered a multimillion-dollar reward for information leading to his capture, identifying him as one of the principal operators of international drug trafficking.

Under his leadership, the CJNG consolidated significant territorial expansion and engaged in disputes with other criminal organizations across various regions of the country. His death represents one of the most significant blows to drug trafficking groups in recent years.

Federal authorities stated that security operations will continue in strategic areas amid concerns over potential internal power shifts or escalations of violence following the cartel leader’s death.
