The Attorney General’s Office reported that the family’s legal representative formally requested the remains of the former CJNG leader, while two alleged members were charged and transferred to a federal prison in the State of Mexico

The Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) reported that it has received a formal request for the release of the body of Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho,” who was identified as the leader of the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG).

According to the agency, the written request was submitted by an individual who identified himself as the legal representative of the deceased’s family, seeking the release of the remains. The institution stated that the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office is currently completing all required procedural steps to formally proceed with the handover.

Oseguera Cervantes was detained Sunday in Tapalpa, Jalisco, during an operation led by federal forces. The Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional reported that the action resulted from coordinated intelligence efforts between the Mexican Army, the National Intelligence Center, and the FGR.

Aircraft from the Mexican Air Force and members of the National Guard’s Immediate Reaction Special Force participated in the operation. During the confrontation, military personnel repelled an armed attack, leaving four alleged CJNG members dead at the scene and three others seriously injured, who later died while being airlifted to Mexico City. Among them was Rubén “N,” alias “El Mencho.”

Authorities also detained two additional alleged members of the criminal group and seized high-powered weapons, armored vehicles, and rocket launchers capable of downing aircraft.

Separately, the FGR detailed that, as part of the investigations stemming from the events in Tapalpa, the Public Prosecutor’s Office assigned to the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO) filed charges against Andrés “N” and Genaro “N” for their alleged involvement in aggravated unlawful possession of firearms and possession of accessories and magazines reserved foro the exclusive use of the Armed Forces.

A control judge ordered pretrial detention for both suspects, who were transferred to the Federal Center for Social Reintegration No. 1, known as “El Altiplano,” in the State of Mexico, where they will remain while their legal status is determined.

The FGR reiterated that the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent judicial authority.
