State authorities detained the former boxer in western Culiacán; officials have not disclosed the reasons behind the operation

Omar Chávez Carrasco, a member of the well-known boxing family led by Julio César Chávez, was arrested Wednesday morning in Culiacán, Sinaloa, according to information obtained from federal security authorities.

The former fighter was taken into custody by officers from the State Preventive Police in the Aguaruto district and was later transferred to the penitentiary facility located in the same area, where he remains under the jurisdiction of the corresponding authorities.

So far, neither the Security Secretariat nor prosecutorial authorities have officially disclosed the reasons for the arrest or whether there is an open criminal investigation against him.

Omar Chávez, born in Culiacán in 1990, began his professional boxing career during his teenage years and built a career in the super middleweight division. His last name placed him under the spotlight of Mexican boxing from an early age, often sharing attention with his brother, Julio César Chávez Jr..

The case once again draws attention to the Chávez family after, in 2025, Julio César Chávez Jr. faced legal proceedings following his arrest in the United States and subsequent transfer to Mexico to continue investigations related to alleged federal crimes.

As of Wednesday afternoon, authorities had not released further details regarding Omar Chávez’s legal situation or any potential charges against him.
