The discovery followed 911 calls reporting gunfire and warnings of possible traps inside the residence

Authorities in Northern California are investigating a suspected murder-suicide after four people — two adults and two children — were found dead Tuesday morning inside a home in the city of Rancho Cordova.

The discovery followed multiple calls to the 911 emergency system reporting gunfire in the area. A subsequent call warned authorities that the interior of the home contained possible traps, prompting law enforcement to take additional precautions before entering the residence.

Due to the potential danger, officers conducted an initial inspection of the home using a drone. During the assessment, one unresponsive adult was observed inside the residence. After officers entered the home, they found a woman and two children deceased.

Authorities said the case is being investigated as a suspected murder-suicide and that the man found dead is believed to be responsible for the other three deaths.

Officials reported there were no prior records of domestic violence associated with the residence. The incident has shaken local residents, who described the area as a quiet, family-oriented neighborhood.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
