Firefighters battled flames from above to protect nearby homes; no injuries reported

On Saturday morning, a devastating fire engulfed a commercial building in the heart of University Heights, confirmed the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

The blaze was reported shortly before 6 a.m. in the 4300 block of Georgia Street. Fire crews arrived within minutes, but the building’s structure was extremely unstable, forcing a defensive approach to contain the flames.

“Given the state of the building, it was very structurally unsafe, so our team had to fight the fire from a safe position,” explained Candance Hadley, Public Information Officer for SDFD, as reported by Fox 5 San Diego.

To control the fire and protect surrounding buildings, firefighters used a ladder pipe to distribute water and deployed hose lines around the structure. The building, which had a history of previous fires, was completely destroyed.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and nearby homes and businesses were protected. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
