Rising Rates of Home and Vehicle Theft: San Ysidro

San Ysidro, California - The community is grappling with growing apprehension as insecurity escalates, particularly focusing on a surge in home and vehicle robberies. Distressed residents are reporting alarming incidents that have heightened insecurity levels in San Diego County.

Home robberies have reached alarming levels, with the elderly population being particularly affected. Stephanie Ramirez, an affected resident, shared her ordeal with BajaNews. She recounted an attempt to steal her vehicle in the early hours of Monday at an apartment complex on Sunset Street. Alerted by neighbors reporting two men near her car, Stephanie discovered her window shattered and a knife on the ground upon approaching.

The situation worsens with reports of two elderly homeowners on Sunset Street in San Ysidro falling victim to home robberies. In an additional case, one of them also experienced the theft of their vehicle. The criminals posed as construction workers, inquiring about elderly residents and seeking access to homes under the pretext of bathroom repairs. They managed to enter the homes and strip them of their belongings.

Stephanie described the men as of medium height, one slender and the other robust, both dressed in hoodies, heading towards a gas station near Dairy Mart Street. The incidents have been duly reported to the San Diego Police and are currently under investigation. The community awaits concrete measures to address this growing issue and restore security in San Ysidro.

It is worth noting that law enforcement officers point out that vehicle theft in San Diego County has become increasingly prevalent, as they are often taken to Tijuana for the "chocolate car regularization" process.
