Thanks to Her Quick Reaction

A California woman's quick thinking got her out of a dangerous carjacking attempt in Oakland, according to reports from a local news outlet.

The incident occurred on July 21 around 8:30 a.m. on Skyline Boulevard when the woman was driving behind a white Dodge Charger. As reported by FOX 11 Los Angeles, the Charger suddenly pulled out in front of her, and two suspects emerged from the vehicle.

"They pulled in front of me, the guy jumped out, ran toward me with a gun..." said the woman, who spoke with FOX 11 on the condition of anonymity.

Dashcam video footage from the victim's SUV shows the Charger positioning itself in front of her vehicle, leaving little space between the suspect vehicle and a divider in the middle of the road.

The suspect driver can be seen running from the Charger towards the victim's vehicle while pointing a gun in her direction. Subsequently, a second suspect, wearing a black ski mask, exits the passenger side of the Charger and runs towards the other side of the victim's vehicle.

The passenger suspect, whom the victim believes may have been a woman, attempted to open the passenger door while the driver suspect knocked on the victim's window.

"I hit the accelerator, maneuvered around their car, and drove away as fast as I could trying to get to a safe place," said the woman.

Dashcam footage shows the victim speeding between the suspect vehicle and the road divider as the suspects follow her down a hill.

"I had the horn going, and I was driving fast and hard, not allowing them to get close to me," said the victim, describing the experience as "terrifying." "You have to have a plan. You have to be alert."

The Oakland Police Department informed FOX 11 that they have identified a suspect in connection with the incident. Furthermore, authorities suspect that this individual may be involved in other carjackings in the area.

In a concerning pattern, there were a total of nine carjackings reported in Oakland, located just east of San Francisco across the bay, between July 17 and 23, according to the police. Oakland crime statistics show that there have been over 300 carjackings in total so far this year, representing an increase compared to the same time period in 2021 and 2022.
