Mexican communities across San Diego are preparing for a holiday weekend filled with Independence Day celebrations, World Cup excitement, and hope that El Tri can upset England and reach the quarterfinals.

The Fourth of July holiday weekend will carry extra excitement for thousands of Mexican residents across San Diego County. Alongside the traditional Independence Day celebrations, anticipation is building for Sunday's World Cup Round of 16 match between Mexico and England.

Over the coming days, beaches, parks, restaurants, sports bars, and family gatherings are expected to be filled with fans, with soccer taking center stage. For many, the holiday weekend will be an opportunity to celebrate with friends and loved ones before gathering around the television to support Mexico's national team.

So far, Mexican community organizations have not announced additional large-scale public watch parties, as several government offices and some public facilities will operate on modified schedules or remain closed for the holiday weekend. However, community activities have already been confirmed in Barrio Logan, where fans are expected to gather and share the World Cup atmosphere.

The excitement is also evident in local businesses. Retailers such as Walmart, neighborhood shops, and street vendors continue to report strong demand for Mexico national team jerseys, as well as flags, hats, and other green, white, and red merchandise appearing throughout the county.

Beyond statistics and predictions, one familiar phrase is once again echoing among Mexican fans: "What if they actually do it?" The expression captures the optimism of supporters who believe Mexico can pull off an upset against England and secure a place in the World Cup quarterfinals.
