The pursuit of a stabbing suspect crossed the border and ended in a confrontation with Mexican authorities

A man identified as the alleged perpetrator of a stabbing in downtown San Diego ended up involved in a shootout in the El Chaparral area of Tijuana, according to the San Diego Police Department (SDPD).

According to the department, the initial incident occurred shortly after 11 a.m. on Thursday, when a man was stabbed at 715 15th Street in the East Village neighborhood. When officers arrived, they found the victim with life-threatening injuries, and he was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, the suspected attacker fled the scene in a gray Mercedes, triggering a pursuit, Fox 5 San Diego reported.

Minutes later, the vehicle was located in the area of Stork Street. When the driver attempted to flee again, SDPD officers resumed the chase.

The police pursuit caused heavy traffic near the San Ysidro Port of Entry as the suspect’s vehicle crossed the border into Mexico, forcing U.S. officers to halt the chase.

According to Lt. Travis Easter, officers deployed spike strips at several locations but were unable to stop the driver. Once in Mexican territory, an armed confrontation took place between the man and local authorities. The Mexican National Guard later confirmed that the suspect had been shot.

His condition remains unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
