A special performance by Banda El Recodo and authentic Mexican cuisine will be part of Thursday’s World Cup festivities

Soccer fever is taking over Chula Vista this Thursday as fans prepare for the highly anticipated FIFA World Cup match between Mexico and South Korea. To mark the occasion, the city will transform the popular Third Avenue into a gathering place for soccer enthusiasts and families alike.

Since the tournament kicked off on June 11, excitement has continued to build, especially after both Mexico and South Korea secured victories in their opening matches. Thursday’s showdown is expected to draw large crowds eager to enjoy a festive outdoor experience.

Activities will begin at 11:30 a.m. and will include giant-screen broadcasts of the day’s matches, a wide variety of food offerings from local vendors, family-friendly entertainment, and interactive activities throughout the day. To cap off the celebration, attendees will enjoy a special performance by Banda El Recodo, one of the most iconic groups in Mexican regional music.

“We are proud to create spaces where families, fans, and visitors can come together to celebrate our community,” said Mayor John McCann. “These soccer celebrations are about community pride, bringing people together, and creating memorable experiences for residents and visitors throughout the summer.”

The event is free and open to the public.

Thursday Match Schedule:

• Switzerland vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina | 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
• Canada vs. Qatar | 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
• Mexico vs. South Korea | 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

City officials also announced a second celebration scheduled for July 19 at Southwestern College in Chula Vista. The event will feature food vendors, a beer garden, and giant screens where fans can continue enjoying the excitement of the tournament together.
